In Sudbury, we are fortunate to have two doctors, as of today, who will release the frenulum of babies who need it.

If you are not a client of these two doctors, your lactation consultant will refer you to your health care provider (doctor, nurse practitioner, midwife) who will then take the necessary steps to have your baby seen.

After the procedure is done there are some exercises that need to be done so that the frenulum does not reattach. There may also be a need for some suck retraining as well.

Here is a nice little video showing the exercises to be done once you are home and settled. I know that I have asked my clients to simply do the tongue stretching at the end of the video, but all of them would be a good idea if you and baby are amenable.
